ExperienceI have experience tutoring my younger brothers in biology, chemistry, and spanish. They are in high school and college. I also volunteered for two months at Olathe East High with a group of students on a microbiology project. What makes me a great tutor is that I know my subjects and I am patient. I am willing to read with the student, write down explanations and figures, and discuss. If I don't know something, then we will find it together! I try to tutor by identifying how the student learns. I get enjoyment out of sharing my love of science and seeing the student grow confident in the subject. I have worked in an academic lab for two years and am always in a learning environment. At KU I majored in microbiology so my background is heavy in biology (microbiology, pathogenic micro., virology, immunology). I feel very comfortable tutoring math. I took Calculus I&II as well as linear algebra and differential equations, but I love algebra. I took organic chemistry I&II and biochemistry and enjoyed them. I also, took three years of spanish in high school and one year in college. I am comfortable with spanish.
HobbiesI am a nerd and athlete. I played soccer from kindergarden until junior year of high school, then switched to cross country. I ran cross country for four years at the University of Kansas and loved every minute. I am a huge KU basketball fan. Besides running I enjoy cooking, gardening, playing with my dog, and enjoying Kansas City. I have such a passion for science education and I love seeing student's faces light up when they 'get it'!
